Pior que nas duas edições eu curtiria bem a lineup. Teve até Kyuss e Fu Manchu. |

| Citação: | After Nearly 30 Years, the Master of Puppets Tour Backdrop Comes Home
November 16, 2015 / Digital SW!
BY STEFFAN CHIRAZI
When I was at the Leeds festival a few months back, amidst the tranquility of the backstage fields and trees, I saw James Hetfield in discussion with a fan. This piqued my interest, as on show days James has recently been lying low in order to fully prepare for the tasks at hand. I grabbed a couple of quick snap-shots before gauging that this was a private moment and leaving sharpish.
This showed all the journalistic skills of a short-attention-span gnat.
I was soon to learn that this fan, Wayne Summers – head of the UK Torn chapter of the Fan Club – had presented something fantastic (not just the fact he’s a Spurs supporter). He had returned the original Master of Puppets backdrop from the ‘86 tour to the band, and I can tell you, when I asked James about their chat, his eyes lit up like Christmas trees.
Thus why I contacted Wayne and asked him to tell the story of this backdrop’s discovery and return a tale which also involved James Nelson and Zach Harmon, stalwart anchors and senior players in the Metallica crew. Here’s Wayne…
It was a Wednesday evening in July 2015 and I was doing my weekly Metallica eBay for sale search when I came across an auction for the 1986 Metallica Master of Puppets UK Tour Backdrop. I have been a Metallica collector for 3 years and I instantly knew that this was a major piece of Metallica history if it was to be an authentic item. I knew I couldn't mention this to any of Metallica Collector friends so I studied any online pictures that I could find from the 1986 September UK Shows against the photos on the auction to see if they looked identical. I was 90% sure it was real. The auction ended without the reserve bid being met so I instantly messaged the seller on eBay asking if I could meet him in person and see the backdrop. Jason replied and agreed to meet me so I drove up to Birmingham after work on the Thursday evening and we met in a McDonald’s car park. Jason and I unwrapped the backdrop out of the box onto the car park. It was an amazing sight, 30ft by 20ft in size and I was convinced immediately that it was authentic. We chatted for over an hour about the backdrop history, all things Metallica and that Jason had been at the Metallica gig in Birmingham on Sept 1986. We agreed a cash deal and off I drove back to London with a massive piece of Metallica history on my back seat. I remember being so happy and proud as I drove home.
August 2015 and I am on tour watching Metallica around Europe when we are at a pre-show party in Gothenburg, Sweden. I bump into one of Metallica's road crew and whilst we were chatting, I told him that I had purchased the backdrop and showed him photos of it. The next day whilst I was on stage waiting for Metallica to start, one of Metallica's management came up to me and asked to see photos and if he could see the backdrop in the UK at either the Reading or Leeds Festival because if it was authentic, Metallica would love to have it back in their possession. We exchanged emails during the week and we agreed that I would take the backdrop up to the Leeds Festival and show him. The day came and along with my Met Club friends, Carolin and Barry we drove from London up to the Leeds Festival. As the backdrop weighed around 8kgs, I was given a parking space in the artist’s car park where I was met by Zach and Nelson who both work for Metallica. We took the backdrop out of the box and left Zach and Nelson to look at it and chat alone whilst Zach worked out if it was the real backdrop. After Zach had confirmed it was the one, I did the rightful thing and handed over the backdrop to Zach to give back to Metallica.
It was the greatest day of my life!! We had a meal in the artist’s tent and I met the band for the first time after being a fan for 25 years!! Best of all, James dedicated “Seek and Destroy” to me on stage for returning a special piece of history to the band! Thank you Metallica! \m/
